Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement covers the HeiaHeia and MarsMars mobile services. As the provider of the services, HeiaHeia Oy aims to ensure that the mobile services meet the requirements for accessibility as laid down in the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019).

Fulfilment of requirements

The mobile services partly meet the requirements of the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019). Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations is mentioned below under Non-accessible content.

Non-accessible content

The following content and/or functions do not yet meet the accessibility requirements:

  1. Not all images can be described in text format. Planned development: whenever possible, we migrate from static images to features rendered in the application, which allows for better accessibility. (WCAG 1.1)
  2. We do not offer an alternative to all time-based media (e.g. video). Unreasonable burden: We do not plan to offer an alternative to all videos included in the service. (WCAG 1.2)
  3. Not all content can be presented in adjustable ways. Certain features of the service are currently offered as static images that cannot be represented in any other way. Planned development: where applicable, we will render these elements on mobile. (WCAG 1.3)
  4. The Service contains some videos that contain text and / or audio. Planned development: this content will be replaced with accessible content. (WCAG 1.4)
  5. The service contains pages where it is not easy to determine your own location. All the main screens are fully navigable, but some views deeper in the app are not fully accessible in terms of how well you can determine your location in the application's navigation hierarchy. Planned development: we will improve navigability, for example, with improved descriptions of links and headings. (WCAG 2.4)
  6. All forms and error messages in the apps are not fully accessible. Planned development: we systematically review forms and error messages and improve their accessibility. (WCAG 3.3)
  7. Not all web pages we open from the apps are fully accessible. Planned development: optimising experience with all web pages that we control. For example, websites related to wearable devices are not under our control. (WCAG 4.1)
  8. Most of the screens in the app break on largest zoom levels, as the user interface elements cannot contain the amounts of text required. Fixing this would be an unreasonable burden, as it would require re-implementing the whole interface. (WCAG 1.4.4)
  9. Contrast in certain branded elements is insufficient. Certain elements of the service do not meet the contrast requirements, for example due to the blue background colour. Changing these elements would be an unreasonable burden as it would require rebranding the service and possibly our entire company. (WCAG 1.4.3)
  10. Some touch target areas are not fully accessible. Most of the touch targets are accessible, but a limited amount are not fully accessible. Changing these cases would however be an unreasonable burden, as it would require re-designing and re-implementing the main screens of the application. (WCAG 2.5.3)
  11. The service cannot be used horizontally. The service has not been designed to be used in both portrait and landscape modes (excluding the video player). Changing this would be an unreasonable burden, as it would require redesigning and re-implementing the entire user interface.
  12. Web views used for administrating the mobile service do not meet the accessibility requirements. These views are not for general use, but for limited special user groups. Making these views accessible would be an unreasonable burden.
  13. There are certain limitations within the iOS platform that may affect the behavior of the focused element when returning to a view. Specifically, when navigating back to a previous screen or view within our iOS app, the focused element may sometimes return to the top of the page. We recognise that this behaviour can present challenges for users who rely on consistent focus placement, especially those using assistive technologies such as VoiceOver. While we have made efforts to mitigate this issue, the underlying limitations of the iOS platform prevent us from achieving a seamless experience in this aspect.
